Thai Union celebrates World Creativity and Innovation Day.
BANGKOK – On April 21, 2021, the world commemorated World Creativity and Innovation Day, a day recognized by the United Nations (UN) to highlight the importance of creativity and innovation in advancing human development. The UNESCO report on culture and sustainable development highlights the creative industry as one of the fastest-growing sectors globally, contributing significantly to income generation and employment. At Thai Union, we hold innovation as a core value, guiding our business strategies and decisions as we believe it is crucial for our future growth. Our dedication to "Healthy Living, Healthy Oceans" drives us to expand our business and lead in sustainability within the industry through innovative and creative approaches. In 2015, Thai Union inaugurated its Global Innovation Centre (GIC), the first state-of-the-art R&D facility in Thailand. The GIC has been instrumental in producing numerous groundbreaking innovations, ranging from new product developments like plant-based proteins mimicking meat, to supplements extracted from different parts of the tuna, and an innovative cold-pressing technique for preserving fish oil quality without heat. These advancements underscore our commitment to promoting Healthy Living, as evidenced by our brands' efforts to enhance their offerings continuously. This includes the introduction of creative culinary options such as King Oscar’s premium tuna in the USA and the SEALECT x After Yum spicy tuna salad, tailored to the preferences of Thai consumers. Our innovation strategy also encompasses sustainability, aligning with our Healthy Oceans initiative through SeaChange®. We are engaged in partnerships with various organizations, including The Nature Conservancy for real-time monitoring of the tuna supply chain, KBank for employing blockchain technology to securely store migrant workers' personal documents, and the development of a mobile app aimed at enhancing the sustainability of shrimp farming practices.
