Pacific Seafood Releases Second Annual Corporate Social Responsibility Report

Key points from the report include: Sustainability Pacific Seafood is the first and only company to offer Four-Star certified oysters by Best Aquaculture Practices, making them the most sustainable globally. The company has 20 facilities certified by the Marine Stewardship Council and offers 34 certified species. They also operate a Best Aquaculture Practices certified steelhead farm and mandate the use of turtle excluder devices on all harvesting vessels. Food Safety The company's unique traceability technology enables them to track any product from its source to the point of sale. Each year, at least 10 new employees become HACCP certified. The company has a dedicated team of 50 quality assurance members focused on quality and food safety, and they conduct over 100 swabs weekly to ensure their processing facilities are free from pathogens. Environment Pacific Seafood processes almost all of their fish waste into by-products, preventing 80 million pounds of waste from ending up in U.S. landfills. They have reduced packaging waste by 100 tons and recycled over 100,000 pounds of Styrofoam in 2018. Support for People and Communities The company's new Warrenton facility has created over 100 full-time and 100 seasonal jobs. The new dock is expected to generate $220,000 in annual landing fees. The company has also made donations to over 125 nonprofit organizations in the communities where they operate. Pacific Seafood also announced new sustainability projects for 2019, including efforts to get U.S. gulf shrimp and California pink shrimp fisheries MSC certified.
