The Guardian selects ABP Food Group for its biodiversity efforts

Selected alongside giants such as Nestlé, Unilever, and M&S, the Guardian has recognized ABP Food Group as one of the top 'Five Companies Prioritizing Nature.' Rathkeale Wetlands At five of our locations in Ireland, we've launched biodiversity projects, creating 250,000 square meters of new natural habitats. In an effort to boost biodiversity, we established Wetlands at our Rathkeale facility in Co. Limerick, aimed at revitalizing the frog population. Frogs serve as natural pest controllers, their increased presence helps reduce the need for harmful chemical pesticides, benefiting the surrounding fauna and flora. Bees play a crucial role in our ecosystem, essential for the pollination process and the survival of many plants, fruits, and vegetables worldwide. To support these vital pollinators, we've built bee sanctuaries designed to accommodate bumblebees, thereby aiding the pollination of numerous local crops. The Significance of Biodiversity In Ireland, the industry is not mandated by any regulatory or environmental authorities to foster a positive interaction with biodiversity. Beyond the regulation of emissions and minimizing adverse effects, there's no obligation to contribute positively to local ecosystems. ABP has taken it upon itself to either preserve or improve the ecosystems surrounding its facilities, which are predominantly situated in rural or semi-rural areas. Agriculture depends significantly on local biodiversity for a range of ecosystem services, including pest management, genetic diversity, nutrient recycling, air and water cleaning, pollination, and providing food. Biodiversity plays a crucial role in sustaining the ecosystems and habitats upon which our way of life relies for food and resources. Initiatives like those undertaken by ABP Food Group are vital in supporting ecosystems, enhancing and safeguarding the populations of insects and wildlife that are often displaced or harmed by urbanization and the reduction of green spaces.
