ABP forms partnership with FoodCloud

ABP has unveiled a new collaboration with FoodCloud, a charitable organization focused on redistributing excess food, set to last for three years. This initiative is projected to save 142.5 tonnes of food, translating to around 345,000 meals for FoodCloud’s network of community and voluntary organizations. Additionally, the program is anticipated to reduce carbon emissions by over 457 tonnes of CO2 equivalent during its duration. It is also expected that up to 600 community groups will reap benefits from this collaboration annually. The partnership will place a significant focus on involving ABP Ireland’s employees through various activities, including volunteer work, campaigns to raise awareness about food waste and climate change, and the incorporation of these efforts into existing local community initiatives. Bernie McGeogh, the HR Director at ABP Ireland, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We are thrilled to embark on this vibrant and impactful collaboration with FoodCloud. We are eager to engage our team members across the Irish operations in enhancing awareness about the environmental implications of food waste and empowering them to lead initiatives against food waste in their homes and communities.” Aoibheann O’Brien, the co-founder and acting CEO of FoodCloud, remarked, “With the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, many community and voluntary groups are seeing a surge in the need for food and additional services. Our alliance with ABP will significantly boost our capacity to distribute more excess food via our distribution centers to those in dire need.” FoodCloud collaborates with a variety of stakeholders including retailers, food producers, the government, and other businesses to reroute surplus food, aiming to foster a circular economy that minimizes waste. This non-profit organization plays a crucial role, with 75% of its community and voluntary affiliates reporting an uptick in food demand. ABP’s commitment to sustainability spans its entire supply chain, incorporating efforts to lower carbon emissions in beef production and offering circular solutions for managing food waste from the food service and hospitality industries. Through its renewable energy division, Olleco, ABP transforms food waste and used cooking oils into renewable energy and biofuels.
