BANGKOK, August 2, 2023 – Thai Union Group PCL has unveiled its 2022 Sustainability Report, showcasing the strides made throughout the year and outlining its ambitious objectives as part of SeaChange® 2030, the company's updated sustainability agenda. This strategy, supported by a substantial investment of THB 7.2 billion (approximately USD 200 million), aims to set bold new targets that will significantly influence the global seafood industry's entire value chain. The document offers a comprehensive examination of Thai Union's efforts in 2022 to foster positive change within its operations and the broader seafood sector. As a leading global seafood producer and a major manufacturer of shelf-stable tuna products, the company has been at the forefront of driving sustainable practices. In 2022, Thai Union achieved several milestones, including: - Fully implementing the Employer Pays Principle to prevent workers from paying for employment. - Proposing short-term and long-term climate change objectives to the Science Based Targets Initiative for validation. - Forming a collaboration with the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership to enhance supply chain transparency. - Conducting the inaugural at-sea audit to evaluate crew working conditions and welfare on longline vessels. - Releasing its first Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) report. - Achieving a 7 percent reduction in Scope 1 & 2 greenhouse gas emissions compared to 2021. - Increasing the proportion of tuna sourced from vessels with electronic monitoring and/or human observers from 71 percent in 2021 to 79 percent.
