BANGKOK, December 13, 2023 – For the 10th year in a row, Thai Union Group PCL, a global leader in the seafood industry, has earned a spot on the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI), a nod to its steadfast dedication to sustainable and ethical business operations. Since its initial inclusion in the DJSI in 2013, Thai Union has been on a transformative journey towards sustainability, achieving significant milestones and fostering innovation along the way. The company's commitment to environmental conservation, social responsibility, and governance has been crucial to its sustained recognition on the DJSI. Thiraphong Chansiri, CEO of Thai Union, expressed pride in the company's decade-long acknowledgment by the DJSI, highlighting it as a reflection of their commitment to sustainable development and ethical business practices. He emphasized the role of their SeaChange® 2030 sustainability strategy in driving meaningful industry change. Over the years, Thai Union has leveraged the DJSI as a framework for ongoing improvement, challenging itself to meet the index's stringent criteria. Notably, Thai Union has been at the forefront of Blue Finance, an innovative financing approach aimed at supporting ocean sustainability. The company's sustainability efforts are anchored by its SeaChange® strategy, which was introduced in 2016 and updated in 2023 with new objectives extending to 2030. This strategy outlines 11 interconnected goals, embedding sustainability across Thai Union's operations and setting ambitious future targets. Adam Brennan, Chief Sustainability Officer at Thai Union, remarked that the DJSI recognition motivates their ongoing efforts towards a sustainable seafood industry. The SeaChange® 2030 strategy is set to guide these efforts, aiming for a positive environmental legacy. Key goals of SeaChange® 2030 include reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 42 percent across scopes 1, 2, and 3 by 2030, aiming for net zero by 2050; investing over THB 250 million (over USD 7 million) in ecosystem protection and restoration; achieving zero water discharge, zero waste to landfill, and zero food loss at its major global facilities; ensuring sustainable shrimp production; expanding responsible sourcing practices; and fostering a safe and equitable work environment. The S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) annually evaluates around 10,000 companies, helping leaders like Thai Union benchmark their sustainability efforts against sector-specific standards.
