Thai Union Calls for Worldwide Collaboration to Address Climate Change on the Occasion of United Nations Day

In a move to protect the world's oceans amidst the escalating climate crisis, Thai Union has unveiled its "Healthy Living, Healthy Oceans" initiative, committing to environmentally sustainable practices. On 24 October 2020, coinciding with United Nations Day, Thai Union Group PCL emphasized the need for worldwide collaboration to combat climate change's detrimental effects. The company is aligning its new objectives with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), focusing on climate action as a key component of its ocean conservation efforts. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the UN Charter, highlighting the significance of global cooperation. Dr. Darian McBain, Thai Union's Global Director of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, stressed the urgency of addressing climate change due to the rising global and sea temperatures. "As the leading seafood company globally, our operations depend on the health of the oceans, which also support millions of people's livelihoods. It's imperative that we take immediate action to protect them," McBain stated. Through its SeaChange® sustainability strategy, Thai Union has outlined milestones aligned with the UN SDGs, focusing on Zero Hunger, Decent Work and Economic Growth, and Life Below Water. The company plans to tackle Climate Change (SDG 13) in 2021. Thai Union has also joined the EP100 initiative by the Climate Group, committing to doubling its energy productivity by 2041, based on a 2016 baseline.
