Thai Union and the Faculty of Agriculture at Kasetsart University have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate academically.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was recently formalized between Thai Union Manufacturing Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of Thai Union Group PCL, and the Faculty of Agriculture at Kamphaeng Sean Campus of Kasetsart University, aimed at fostering the cultivation of organic vegetables for international markets. The signing ceremony saw Nakorn Niruttinanon, Managing Director at Thai Union Manufacturing, and Associate Professor Pabhop Sinchayakul, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture Kamphaeng Saen Campus, coming together to endorse this academic partnership. Dated August 11, 2021, in Bangkok, this collaboration is set to enhance the production and processing of organic vegetables, with a portion of the produce earmarked for Thai Union Manufacturing's export products. The partnership will leverage the Faculty of Agriculture Kamphaeng Sean's expertise in providing educational and technical guidance, thereby benefiting students and local farmers with knowledge on organic farming practices. Throughout the duration of this one-year MoU, Kasetsart University will assist in establishing a demonstration farm for vegetable production, serving as a pilot project. Success in this venture could lead to scaling up to full production capabilities. Additionally, the collaboration will extend into various academic endeavors including research, educational visits, lectures, and support for mutual activities between the university and the company. The initiative will also extend support to the Bann Sukjai Foundation by supplying fresh vegetables, aiding in their mission to assist underprivileged children. This MoU exemplifies Thai Union's dedication to uplifting communities and supporting local agriculture in Nakorn Sawan and surrounding regions, by facilitating the development of farming practices and ensuring a steady supply of vegetables to Thai Union. The project will also benefit the Bann Sukjai Foundation by providing nutritious meals to disadvantaged children. Associate Professor Pabhop Sinchayalul highlighted the multifaceted benefits of this collaboration, emphasizing the positive impact on the university, Thai Union, local farmers, and communities in Nakorn Sawan Province and beyond, including the Bann Sukjai Foundation. Nakorn Niruttinanon expressed satisfaction in partnering with Kasetsart University's Faculty of Agriculture, which will contribute valuable insights into organic vegetable cultivation and promote organic farming in Nakorn Sawan Province, thereby enhancing vegetable quality, production standards, and supporting local employment. In light of the growing demand for organic products, including those for human and pet consumption, Pornchai Tatiyachaitaweesuk, Vice President of Thai Union’s Global PetCare Business Unit, underscored the initiative to incorporate organic vegetables into pet food products, aligning with the company's commitment to offering nutritious options worldwide.
