Thai Union Acknowledged as a Top Sustainable Company Globally by S&P Global
On 19 February 2021, in Bangkok, Thai Union Group PCL was honored as one of the top sustainable companies globally, earning a Gold Class distinction in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook 2021. The company achieved the highest ranking in the food industry for its Social criteria, focusing on human rights and occupational health and safety, and secured the second position for both its Environmental initiatives - which include climate strategy, operational eco-efficiency, packaging, and sourcing of raw materials - and its Governance and Economic efforts, encompassing health and nutrition, innovation management, and supply chain management. As a leading entity in the seafood sector, Thai Union was among the exclusive group of five companies in the food industry to be awarded the Gold Class distinction, following the S&P’s Global Corporate Sustainability Assessments, which evaluated over 7,000 companies across 61 industries worldwide. Dr. Darian McBain, the Global Director of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Thai Union, emphasized the company's commitment to sustainable development as a core operational principle. He highlighted the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic but reaffirmed the company's dedication to achieving its sustainability objectives and setting global industry standards despite these obstacles. Despite the disruptions caused by the pandemic, Thai Union has continued to advance its sustainability agenda, supporting communities affected by the virus through food donations and providing personal protective equipment and other essentials to hospitals treating COVID-19 patients. This aligns with the company's pledge to support the communities in which it operates. This acknowledgment by S&P Global follows Thai Union's inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) for the seventh consecutive year, a testament to the company's integration of sustainability into its business practices. In 2020, Thai Union was ranked second globally on the Food Products Industry Index of the DJSI and was listed on the FTSE4Good Emerging Index for the fifth consecutive year.
