Research on Seabed Habitats and Ecosystems

Royal Greenland has recently commissioned the construction of two new trawlers at the Astilleros de Murueta shipyard in Bilbao, Spain, where the vessels will also be assembled. These new trawlers are set to replace M/tr Sisimiut and M/tr Qaqqatsiaq, both of which will be sold once the new ships are ready. The design of the new trawlers is a collaborative effort with Skibsteknisk designers from Aalesund, Norway, who possess extensive knowledge in designing trawlers for Arctic fishing. The delivery of both vessels is scheduled for 2019, with a six-month gap between each delivery - one in the early part of the year and the other around mid-year. Each of the new vessels will measure just over 82 meters in length and will be 17 and 18 meters wide, respectively. The vessels will serve dual purposes; one will be used for catching Atlantic cod and Greenland halibut, while the other will be used for prawn and Greenland halibut fishing.
