Recently, we have backed several new initiatives aimed at combating plastic pollution. Royal Greenland has officially pledged support to Plastic Change as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy. Plastic Change is dedicated to eliminating plastic waste from beaches and oceans, thereby improving the health of ecosystems that are in or directly influenced by the oceans. Currently, Plastic Change is conducting a global survey of plastic pollution in the oceans, under the guidance of a Danish research team from Roskilde University. They are using a specially designed trawl to measure the density of the pollution, which will help provide a comprehensive understanding of the current situation. More information about Plastic Change and their work can be found here. In addition to this, CSR Greenland organizes an annual Cleaning Day in various Greenland cities, where companies and individuals come together to clean up waste. This year, the emphasis was on plastic waste, which is known for its extremely long degradation period, some types taking up to 600 years. However, degradation does not imply complete disappearance, and most plastic eventually becomes microplastic, which poses environmental challenges, including ingestion by animals. Cleaning Greenland for 6 years The annual cleaning day has been held for six consecutive years, and this year, for the first time, the focus has also been on the oceans. In Nuuk, local divers joined in the effort to clean the oceans, and in total, over 4 tons of waste was collected. More information about CSR Greenland and their initiatives can be found here. This year in Nuuk, over 500 individuals and 42 companies came together to collect waste and contribute to a healthier environment. In total, over 4 tons of waste was collected and recycled. The annual Cleaning Day is an initiative by CSR Greenland, of which Royal Greenland is a founding partner. CSR at Royal Greenland At Royal Greenland, we are committed to integrating CSR into all levels of our organization to ensure long-term sustainability. We incorporate sustainability into every aspect of our business and are always on the lookout for additional opportunities for improvement or collaboration. It is crucial to our success in this area that we initiate or participate in projects that benefit the environment and preserve our most precious resource for future generations – the fish and shellfish of the North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans. Royal Greenland's CSR strategy focuses on three main areas: people, planet, and profit. More information about Royal Greenland's CSR strategy can be found here.
