BANGKOK – On June 15, 2022, Thai Union Group, along with its volunteers from Thailand, Europe, and Africa, participated in an international coastal clean-up initiative aimed at environmental protection and supporting the company's pledge towards Healthy Oceans. The collective effort resulted in the removal of 1,809 kilograms of waste, including plastic bags, bottles, foam, cigarette butts, and glass bottles, from various locations. This initiative took place on World Oceans Day, June 8, as part of a worldwide campaign by the Seafood Business for Ocean Stewardship (SeaBOS) and Ocean Conservancy to safeguard marine ecosystems. Thai Union's CEO, Thiraphong Chansiri, emphasized the importance of the oceans to the business and the company's commitment to Healthy Living, Healthy Oceans. The clean-up involved 51 Thai Union Group volunteers and 249 local staff and volunteers in Samut Sakhon, Thailand, who focused on a local mangrove forest. In Italy, Mareblu employees cleaned the Genova Voltri beach, collecting over 4,000 cigarette butts, while in Tema, Ghana, 65 Pioneer Food Cannery (PFC) employees and community members cleaned the Canoe Basin area. Additionally, PFC provided free medical screenings for over 180 people on World Oceans Day. The collected waste was managed by local waste separation and disposal companies in Thailand, Italy, and Ghana. The most commonly found items during the clean-ups were plastic bags, glass bottles, foam, plastic bottles, rubber slippers, and cigarette butts.
