Launch of ABP's new podcast series
ABP has unveiled the inaugural episode of its podcast series titled "Farm Matters," focusing on the critical issue of farm safety. The first episode features discussions with Kerrie Leonard, a farm accident survivor; Pat Griffin, a Senior Inspector at the Health and Safety Authority (HSA); and Alma Jordan, the creator of AgriKids. In the episode, Kerrie Leonard shares her experience of a life-altering spinal injury from a farm accident in County Meath, her advocacy for farm safety awareness, and her achievements post-accident, including international archery competitions, earning a Masters degree, and her current role at a tech company. Pat Griffin provides insights into the demographics most at risk for farm accidents, the disproportionate number of workplace deaths in agriculture, and the effects of Covid-19 and mental health on farm safety. Alma Jordan discusses AgriKids' efforts to educate children about farm safety, the adaptation to digital platforms due to Covid-19, and future plans for the organization. Martin Kane, Managing Director of ABP Ireland, expressed his enthusiasm for the podcast's launch and its focus on farm safety, thanking the guests for their contributions. He emphasized the podcast's goal to explore topics relevant to Ireland's agricultural community with various experts. Pat Griffin thanked ABP for the platform to discuss farm safety, highlighting the ongoing importance of the issue in Ireland and the need for continuous education on safety practices for farmers. Hosted by Mary Kennedy, the podcast series aims to foster discussions within the Irish farming community on a range of subjects. Future episodes will cover life in rural areas during the pandemic and strategies for reducing emissions in dairy beef. Following government guidelines for Covid-19, the podcast recordings are conducted over Zoom.
