JBS renews its presence in the B3 Efficient Carbon Index (ICO2).

Every electric vehicle in the fleet prevents the annual emission of approximately 30 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalent into the atmosphere. Seara, known for its innovation and leadership in various food market categories, is expanding its logistics operations from 19 to 200 fully electric refrigerated trucks by January 2023. The company will use vehicles supplied by No Carbon, a new JBS New Businesses company specializing in the rental of electric trucks, to carry out local distribution trips of its products to customers throughout Brazil. Each electric vehicle in the fleet prevents the annual release of about 30 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalent into the atmosphere. NoCarbon's trucks have a range of 170 kilometers, can carry up to 4 tons of cargo, and are equipped with refrigerated containers that can store both chilled and frozen products simultaneously. This initiative will help to reduce scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions, which are indirect emissions from the company's operations. "Our goal is to increasingly expand the reach of sustainable and low-carbon logistics solutions. Therefore, we aim to have electric vehicles in all metropolitan regions with a Seara Distribution Center," highlighted Fabio Artifon, Seara's Logistics Director. The brand is a pioneer in adopting refrigerated electric trucks, with vehicles already distributing products in Santa Catarina, São Paulo, Paraná, and the Federal District. With the addition of 200 new vehicles to its transport fleet, Seara estimates a reduction of about 6,000 tons in its indirect CO2 emissions, equivalent to the planting of 45,000 trees. This is because the electric trucks will replace more polluting diesel vehicles. "With the introduction of the new electric trucks, we facilitate fleet renewal and support our partner transporter without the need for them to invest in transitioning to a low-carbon fleet," Artifon emphasized. In addition to the lower environmental impact, one of the main advantages of electric vehicles is the low cost of operation and maintenance. For example, the truck does not have an air filter, oil filter, fuel filter, exhaust system, belts, injector nozzle, injection pump, and other items that make the maintenance of a conventional vehicle cost up to six times more than the electric model. The progress in fleet electrification is part of JBS's efforts to achieve Net Zero by 2040, aiming to reduce scope 1 (direct), 2 (indirect from electricity), and 3 (indirect) emissions and offset all residual emissions.
