Fighting hunger is a priority for the task force, states JBS CEO at G20 event.
In January, JBS commenced the construction of a new facility in Presidente Epitácio, São Paulo, dedicated to the production of gelatin and bioactive collagen peptides. The company is set to invest R$ 280 million in the local area by the end of the year, creating 400 new jobs throughout the construction phase. The facility is expected to begin operations in early 2022 and aims to be a model of sustainability. Initiatives include the complete recycling of packaging waste, water reuse and treatment, natural lighting in workspaces, and the use of energy-efficient equipment. Claudia Yamana, the executive leading the project, mentioned that there will be a planting of 189,200m² of native tree species over the next 240 months. This initiative will be complemented by carbon credit issuance and an effluent treatment area that is four times larger than the factory itself. "We are committed to implementing the highest standards of sustainability in our new plant and will manage all resources responsibly, in addition to creating job opportunities in the area. We will work closely with JBS Environmental for solid waste management and collaborate with other group businesses to ensure a comprehensive and value-adding sustainability chain," stated Claudia. This venture will join the JBS New Businesses group, which includes operations that convert by-products and unused materials from beef, pork, and poultry processing into high-value products. These products range from biodiesel and collagen to fertilizers, casings for sausages, animal feed, pharmaceutical ingredients, and cleaning and hygiene materials. They are sold in the Brazilian market and exported to over 40 countries. The group also encompasses companies providing strategic services to JBS in areas such as metal packaging, trading, transportation, recycling, and waste management.
