Farm Safety category at BTYSTE 2021 sponsored by ABP
For the seventh year in a row, the ABP Food Group is the proud sponsor of the distinguished Farm Safety Award at the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition (BTYSTE). This award is dedicated to acknowledging projects aimed at enhancing farm safety and raising awareness among the youth about the potential hazards of farm accidents. The inaugural virtual edition of the BTYSTE is scheduled from the 6th to the 8th of January, operating daily from 9 am to 5:30 pm. During the event, ABP Food Group will present a virtual booth showcasing the Certified Irish Angus Schools Competition. This yearly contest, supported by ABP, offers students a real-world, farm-to-fork perspective on the benefits and challenges associated with contemporary beef production. It serves as a practical extension to agricultural science studies, offering hands-on experience while informing students about the agriculture and food sector. Additionally, ABP backs the ABP Angus Youth Challenge, a similar contest conducted in Northern Ireland. Martin Kane, the Managing Director of ABP Ireland, expressed his pride in backing the Farm Safety Award for the seventh straight year. He highlighted the innovative and groundbreaking projects that have emerged as winners over the years, emphasizing the importance of continuing to enhance farm safety. Kane also extended his gratitude to all participants for their contributions towards raising awareness on this critical issue. In an episode of the ABP Farm Matters podcast series, Pat Griffin, a Senior Inspector with the Health and Safety Association (HSA), revealed that the agricultural sector witnessed 16 fatalities in 2020, with nine victims aged over 65 and three children, representing around 40% of all workplace-related deaths in Ireland for that year. Now in its 57th iteration, the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition stands as one of the world's most significant and enduring STEM events.
