Cooke Employee Advances to Team Leader at New Brunswick Hatchery

An employee of Cooke Aquaculture Scotland, Callum Duggan, transitioned from Cumbria to Canada after demonstrating his skills and potential to his peers, earning him a promotion to Team Lead at the New Brunswick Hatchery in Canada. At 28 years old, Callum had been with Cooke Scotland for seven years before accepting the opportunity to join Kelly Cove Salmon, a Cooke subsidiary, at their Johnston Lake Hatchery in Pennfield, New Brunswick. He assumed the role of Lead Hand starting January 2024. Previously, Callum was a Freshwater Operative at the Holmwrangle Hatchery in Cumbria, England, which is part of Cooke Scotland. Callum's educational background includes a BSc (Hons) in Marine Biology, a Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship in Aquaculture, and a Level 4 Technical Apprenticeship in Aquaculture Management. He also earned additional certifications from Cooke, including an ILM Level 3 and ILM Level 5, both in leadership and management. In 2021, Callum was recognized as the Aquaculture Learner of the Year by Lantra Scotland, a rural skills organization. He also shared the CARAS (Council for Awards of Agricultural Societies) award for commitment to learning. In early 2023, Cooke Canada reassessed its long-term strategy for freshwater operations and identified Callum as a promising candidate for a leadership role within the company's global operations. Callum, who will be managing a team of five to seven people, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and his eagerness to apply the skills and knowledge he has acquired in his new role. Colin Blair, the Managing Director at Cooke Scotland, praised Callum and wished him success in his new role in Canada. He also emphasized the company's commitment to investing in their employees through continuous training and development.
