Brazil's production system serves as a global inspiration, states JBS's Global CSO in Pará.
The food production system in Brazil serves as an inspiration globally, according to Jason Weller, the Global Chief Sustainability Officer at JBS, during his visit to Novo Repartimento in Pará to explore sustainable cattle farming projects supported by JBS in the region. "Every time I visit Brazil, I am inspired by the opportunities and the energy of the Brazilian people, especially the cattle farmers," he added. While attending the Amazônia Connect event, hosted by Solidaridad in collaboration with USAID, Earth Innovation Institute, National Wildlife Federation, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Weller shared JBS's vision for creating a more sustainable cattle farming industry. This vision addresses two major challenges: climate change and feeding a global population expected to reach 10 billion by 2050. "We believe it's feasible to improve traceability systems (in the cattle supply chain) and reduce deforestation while simultaneously creating new market opportunities for cattle farmers," he emphasized. In this light, Weller outlined JBS's sustainability strategy, which is founded on three main pillars. "The first is to enhance the transparency of the cattle supply chain. The second is to collaborate with partners on projects that contribute to the sector's development. And the third pillar is to promote sustainable development through the JBS Fund for the Amazon," he noted. Weller acknowledged the market's concerns regarding the Amazon Rainforest's condition and highlighted JBS's commitment to eliminating deforestation in the cattle supply chain. "This is a challenge for the market, but there is also an opportunity to invest in improving the sector's productivity and to offer new market opportunities for cattle farmers," he stated.
