Blockchain platform developed by JBS begins operation.
JBS, a global leader in protein-based foods, has initiated the production of collagen peptides and gelatin, marking its entry into the health and nutraceutical sectors. This move introduces Genu-in, a new brand under JBS New Businesses, with a facility located in Presidente Epitácio, in the state of São Paulo. The establishment of this state-of-the-art 4.0 factory, the most advanced in Brazil's sector and the only one to be fully automated, required an investment of around R$ 400 million. Genu-in sources bovine skin directly from JBS's production chain, a unique approach that ensures complete control over the supply chain and production processes, as well as consistency and quality of the final product. The facility is designed to produce 6,000 tons of collagen peptides and 6,000 tons of gelatin annually, serving customers worldwide. In addition to leveraging technology, the plant also embraces the industry's best sustainability practices. This new venture underscores JBS's commitment to a circular economy within its global operations. The company converts by-products from its beef, pork, and poultry processing into high-value products such as leather, biodiesel, fertilizers, animal feed, pharmaceutical ingredients, and cleaning and hygiene materials. These products are sold in Brazil and exported to numerous countries. "Collagen peptides are the protein of life, naturally stimulating our body's collagen production, which diminishes with age. They are found in products that ensure health, quality of life, and are essential for daily care. At Genu-in, their production is integrated into JBS's value chain, ensuring safety, sustainability, and reliability throughout the entire process," states Cláudia Yamana, director of Genu-in. The company operates in the B2B market, focusing on selling peptides and gelatin to the food, pharmaceutical, and nutraceutical industries. Genu-in's first product launch is Genu-in Life collagen peptide, an ingredient aimed at enhancing health and nutrition by strengthening cartilage, tendons, muscles, bones, and skin health. This ingredient will be included in third-party brands that will reach consumers through retail markets. Additionally, the company is introducing Genu-in Gel gelatin to the market. This product is essential for the food industry, being a key ingredient in desserts, ice creams, and confections, and is also used by the pharmaceutical industry in the production of tablets and medicine capsules.
