ABP encourages BT Young Scientist 2019 entries for Farm Safety projects

Students are given until the 25th of September to indicate their interest in participating. During the Tullamore Show this year, ABP declared its ongoing support for the Farm Safety Category at the forthcoming BT Young Scientist Exhibition in January 2019, marking the fifth year of its involvement with the premier science and innovation event in Ireland. The ABP prize will honor the project that best contributes to enhancing farm safety. Interested students must submit their expressions of interest by the 25th of September for this year's contest. ABP's exhibit at the Tullamore Show was dedicated to its continuous effort to advocate for and enhance farm safety, featuring several farm safety initiatives. Among these were interactive farm safety games presented by Agri Kids, the leading farm safety educational platform for children in Ireland. Additionally, Jack and Alex Brady from Colaiste Chraobh Abhann in Co Wicklow were present, displaying their ABP farm safety project that won at the 2018 BT Young Scientist Expo. Their project, which involved designing a safety lock for livestock trailer gates to minimize farm injury risks, has since been developed into a working prototype. ABP Ireland's Managing Director, Martin Kane, emphasized the importance of farm safety, stating, "Ensuring safety on farms is crucial for us at ABP. Given the ongoing safety challenges on farms, our support for the Farm Safety prize at the BT Young Scientist aims to motivate young individuals to champion farm safety in their communities and among their families." According to the Health and Safety Authority (HSA), farm accidents have resulted in 12 fatalities so far in 2018, compared to 24 in the previous year. Of last year's fatalities, 14 were due to incidents involving tractors and other farm vehicles, including quadbikes, which are commonly used by young farmers.
