ABP backs Embrace Farm’s farm safety initiative

ABP is actively backing the Embrace Farm initiative, the "What's Left Behind" campaign, which features a collection of video narratives from families who have suffered the devastating consequences of farm-related accidents. During the unveiling of the "What's Left Behind" campaign at the National Ploughing Championships' Health & Safety Authority tent, Agriculture, Food, Marine, and Defence Minister Simon Coveney, TD, was present. Embrace Farm's founder, Brian Rohan, highlighted the increasing dangers associated with farming as the industry continues to expand. Embrace Farm recently released the inaugural video in its testimonial series, focusing on the repercussions of the passing of Dermot Hogan, the Offaly hurling U-21 manager, earlier this summer. The video, accessible online, delves into the profound emotional and logistical challenges faced following the loss of the well-regarded GAA personality. Farming remains Ireland's most hazardous sector, accounting for 40% of workplace fatalities last year, with 17 deaths reported. This year has seen a significant rise in fatalities, with 21 incidents already reported, marking a 110% increase from the previous year. The mechanization of farming and the anticipated intensification of the industry pose concerns for increased risks, especially with the lifting of quotas leading to larger herd sizes and more farm activity. Brian Rohan, who lost his father Liam in a farm accident two years ago, introduced the campaign by sharing that the video series aims to shed light on the emotional and logistical aftermath of farm accidents. The campaign's message, "what's left behind," underscores the dual aspects of loss: the immediate emotional toll and the subsequent practical difficulties in managing farm operations after such tragedies. The campaign urges farmers and their families to prioritize safety, especially as farming activities intensify. It emphasizes the importance of addressing potential hazards on farms to prevent accidents. Minister Simon Coveney praised the Rohan family for their efforts to promote farm safety through their personal tragedy. He acknowledged the bravery of the families who shared their stories in the campaign videos, noting their contribution to raising awareness about farm safety and potentially saving lives through their advocacy for precautionary measures.
