£17 million investment in Scotland announced by ABP

ABP has declared a significant investment of £17 million towards the comprehensive redevelopment of its processing facility in Perth, Scotland. This development, unveiled by Mr. Fergus Ewing, the Cabinet Secretary for the Rural Economy and Connectivity, encompasses the expansion and enhancement of the plant's chilled and dry goods storage, maturation, meat processing areas, and facilities for staff. Upon completion, this initiative, which receives backing from the Scottish Government’s Food Processing, Marketing and Co-operation grant scheme, is expected to generate eighty new positions. This comes on the heels of a prior investment of £3 million in the facility's cold storage and refrigeration capabilities over the preceding year. Tom Kirwan, the Managing Director of ABP’s UK operations, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “We are eager to commence the transformation of the Perth site into one of the UK’s premier modern facilities. The upgrades will provide benefits across the board, from our farming partners to our employees and the surrounding community, by not only creating an additional eighty jobs on-site but also offering substantial employment opportunities throughout the construction period.” Since establishing its presence in Scotland in 1982 and taking over the Perth site in 1997, ABP has been a significant player in the region. Currently, ABP Perth has a workforce of 280 and collaborates with 1,600 Scottish farmers. The company has also transitioned to sourcing all its electricity from renewable energy sources. This shift is part of ABP’s broader commitment to environmental sustainability, a commitment that has been recognized through its achievement of quadruple accreditation from the Carbon Trust. This prestigious certification acknowledges ABP’s ongoing efforts and year-over-year progress in minimizing its environmental footprint by verifying its performance in energy consumption, CO2 emissions, water usage, and waste management.
