ABP emerged as the victors of the World’s Best Fillet Steak at the 2019 World Steak Challenge, held in Dublin on July 10th. This prestigious annual event pits beef producers from around the world against each other in a quest for top industry honors. ABP stood out as the Irish producer with the most accolades at the ceremony. The company distinguished itself by outperforming international competitors and securing the most awards of any participant that evening. Their haul included 13 gold, 14 silver, and 13 bronze awards across various categories, a testament to their Ultra Tender Process's effectiveness. ABP's achievement in being named the winner of the World’s Best Fillet Steak was a particular point of pride. The award-winning steak, crafted at ABP Cahir, earned praise from judges for being an exemplary fillet with outstanding flavor, underscoring the Ultra Tender Process's success. Dave O’Connell, ABP's European Commercial Director, expressed his delight over the company's 41 awards, 27 of which were for ABP Ireland. He highlighted this as further recognition of their Ultra Tender process, which has led to ABP beef being featured in over 200 Michelin-starred restaurants worldwide. O’Connell also acknowledged the effort and commitment of the company's teams in Ireland and Europe. These recognitions solidify ABP’s status as a premier beef processor in the EU. The World Steak Challenge serves as a platform for leading steak producers to measure their offerings against those of their peers and promotes steak consumption as part of a nutritious diet. The judging panel, comprising esteemed chefs, butchers, food writers, and other experts from around the world, evaluates products in both their raw and cooked states based on set international standards. Additionally, ABP has recently been honored with the Sustainable Supplier Award at the OSI awards in Munich and the Sustainable Leadership Award at the Sustainable Food Awards 2019 in Amsterdam. Sustainability remains a central focus for ABP in its Irish and European operations. The company is ahead of schedule in meeting its ambitious 2020 sustainability goals, having reduced its CO2 emissions by 350,000 tonnes since 2008\. ABP is poised to become the first Irish meat processor to align its environmental reporting with science-based targets, using 2016 as the baseline year. Furthermore, as a founding member of the Plastics Action Alliance, ABP collaborates with other agri-food entities to enhance the sustainability of plastic packaging within their supply chains.
