The "Battle of the Buffalo" Wing Festival, supported by Wayne-Sanderson Farms, raised $88,000 for cancer victims and research in Huntsville, Alabama. The company, the third largest poultry producer in the country, donated 10,000 pounds of fresh chicken wings for the festival. The event, which included a wing contest and a 5K run, attracted an estimated 4,000 attendees. The festival has raised over $363,000 over the years for the Russel Hill Cancer Foundation and the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology. This year's festival raised more than $88,000, which will be used to support cancer research, treatment, and financial support for terminally ill patients. The "Battle of the Buffalo" Wing Festival is a non-profit organization that aims to lessen the impact of cancer on families in Huntsville, Madison County, and the North Alabama area. It was founded in 2009 by the Theta Pi Chapter of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity in memory of their late brother, Paul Salmon, who died from acute myeloid leukemia in 2007\. Wayne-Sanderson Farms is a long-time supporter of community causes in the southeastern U.S. The company, which employs over 26,000 people, operates 23 fresh and further-processing facilities across Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, and Texas.
