Tyson Foods to Acquire Grain Elevator Operations in Western Tennessee

On February 14, 2018, in Springdale, Arkansas, Tyson Foods, Inc. (NYSE: TSN) announced that one of its subsidiaries is set to acquire three commercial grain elevators from The Andersons, Inc.'s Grain Group (Nasdaq: ANDE). This acquisition, part of Tyson's ongoing expansion in western Tennessee, will take place in Dyer, Humboldt, and Kenton. The new assets will bolster Tyson's existing operations in Union City, Tennessee, and its forthcoming chicken complex in Humboldt. Doug Ramsey, Tyson Foods' group president of poultry, stated that this initiative would secure essential resources for the company, facilitate growth, and enhance customer support. He also expressed enthusiasm about establishing more direct connections with local grain producers. The deal is slated to be finalized in March, with the specifics remaining confidential. It is anticipated that around 20 employees from The Andersons will transition to Tyson Foods, with no expected interruptions to existing contracts with local farmers. Tyson Foods has implemented a program named Local Grain Services (LGS) to foster relationships with farmers who supply grain for the company's chicken feed. The direct purchase of corn, wheat, and soybeans from local farmers not only boosts local economies but also aligns with Tyson's mission to sustainably feed the world with a rapidly expanding range of protein-rich brands. Tyson Foods has created several platforms, including a mobile app and a website, to facilitate grain sales from farmers. More information can be found on the Tyson LGS website.
