SPRINGDALE, Ark. — May 13, 2019 — Tyson Foods (NYSE: TSN) unveiled its sustainability report for 2018 today, showcasing advancements and improved transparency in key sustainability areas, such as farming methods, employee health and safety, hunger alleviation, and more. In 2018, the company achieved the following: Workplace Safety: The company more than doubled its commitment to reduce OSHA recordable workplace injuries and illnesses by 10 percent year-over-year, resulting in a 22 percent decrease. Employee Education: The company broadened the reach of Upward Academy, a program offering language and life skills education, to 33 plant locations. Environment: The company became the first U.S.-based protein company to get approval from the Science Based Target Initiative for its target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030\. Animal Welfare: The company broadened the application of the industry's largest third-party remote video auditing system. Hunger Relief: The company donated over 46 million servings of protein to hunger relief efforts across the U.S. and continued to exceed its schedule in fulfilling its commitment to donate $50 million in five years to combat hunger. New Collaborations Indicate Progress In its pursuit to create top-tier sustainability programs, Tyson Foods formed collaborations with industry leaders, including Environmental Defense Fund, World Resources Institute, Oxfam America, and the United Food and Commercial Workers Union. These collaborations will aid Tyson Foods in accelerating its progress towards sustainability objectives, which include reducing water use intensity by 12% by 2020, reducing greenhouse gases by 30% by 2030, implementing land stewardship practices on two-million acres of row crop corn by the end of 2020; and increasing employee retention by 10%.
