A cooking site will be established in Fayetteville, North Carolina, at the Walmart store located at 7701 S. Raeford Rd. Starting Thursday morning at 11 a.m., free hot meals will be available for anyone in need. Additionally, a meal distribution network will be set up in collaboration with local authorities and disaster relief organizations to assist flood victims in the Fayetteville region. Teams from Tyson Foods’ facilities in Clarksville, and Texarkana, Arkansas; Claryville, Kentucky; New Holland, Pennsylvania; Shelbyville, Tennessee and Glen Allen, Virginia, will reach the site on Wednesday to start meal preparations for Thursday. Tyson Foods’ Meals that Matter disaster relief truck will depart from its base in Springdale, Arkansas, and is also expected to reach the site on Wednesday. The company will be sending three tractor-trailer loads of food products totaling 100,000 pounds, along with one tractor-trailer load each of bagged ice and bottled water. Debra Vernon, senior director of corporate social responsibility, stated, “With over 6,000 team members in North Carolina, the devastation caused by Hurricane Florence is personal to us. This relief effort wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of our team members, disaster relief partners, and customers who are all volunteering their time and resources to ensure our response is as effective as possible.” Tyson Foods will be collaborating with its disaster relief partners American Egg Board, Bimbo Bakeries USA, Harris Baking Co., Hugg & Hall Equipment Co., Peppersource and Salvation Army to optimize relief efforts. Team Rubicon, a disaster relief partner made up of military veterans, has sent two Mobile Command Centers to North Carolina. These command centers, donated by Tyson Foods in 2014 and 2017, include sleeping quarters, as well as office and storage space for Team Rubicon’s staff and volunteers.
