# Tyson Foods Reports a Record-Breaking First Half; Reiterates Full-Year High Performance Outlook

On May 8, 2017, Tyson Foods, Inc., a leading global food company based in Springdale, Arkansas, announced its financial results. The company, which owns top brands such as Tyson®, Jimmy Dean®, Hillshire Farm®, Sara Lee®, Ball Park®, Wright®, Aidells® and State Fair®, reported the following: The first half of the fiscal year saw a GAAP EPS of $2.51 and a record Adjusted EPS of $2.60, a 17% increase from the previous year. The GAAP Operating income was $1,553 million, with a record Adjusted operating income up 8% to $1,605 million. The second quarter saw a GAAP EPS of $0.92 and an Adjusted EPS of $1.01, compared to $1.07 the previous year. The GAAP Operating income was $571 million, with an Adjusted operating income of $623 million. The total company GAAP operating margin was at 6.3%, with an Adjusted operating margin at 6.9%. The company also reported $173 million in total synergies, with $29 million incremental synergies over Q2'16\. It repurchased 2.1 million shares for $133 million, excluding shares repurchased to offset dilution from the company's equity compensation plan. For the fiscal 2017 Guidance, the Adjusted1 EPS guidance was $4.90-$5.05, representing a 12% increase from the adjusted EPS of fiscal 2016\. The acquisition of AdvancePierre Foods Holdings, Inc. is expected to close during the third quarter of fiscal 2017\. Tom Hayes, president and CEO of Tyson Foods, stated that despite seasonal challenges and one-time events, the adjusted earnings per share was up 17% over the first half of fiscal 2016\. He also mentioned the company's focus on growing its protein-packed brands and its plans to fuel growth with next-generation manufacturing capabilities.
