Mobile Relief Operations Dispatched by Meals that Matter with Culinary Teams SPRINGDALE, Ark. — August 30, 2017 — Tyson Foods is mobilizing teams to provide meals in response to the catastrophic flooding following Hurricane Harvey. A cooking station will be established at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Conroe, Texas, where free, hot meals will be served starting at 11 a.m. Friday for anyone in need. Additionally, a delivery system will be set up in collaboration with local authorities and disaster relief organizations to distribute meals to flood victims in the Houston metropolitan area. Teams from Tyson Foods’ facilities in Clarksville, Dardanelle, Scranton, and Texarkana, Arkansas, are expected to arrive on Thursday. The company's Meals that Matter mobile relief truck, based in Springdale, Arkansas, is also scheduled to arrive on Thursday. The company is dispatching three tractor-trailer loads of food products, nearly 100,000 pounds in total, along with one tractor-trailer load each of bulk ice, bagged ice, and bottled water. Tyson Foods will be collaborating with its disaster relief partners Bimbo Bakeries USA, Harris Baking Co., Hugg & Hall Equipment Co., and Peppersource to optimize relief efforts. Team Rubicon, a disaster relief partner made up of military veterans, is deploying its Mobile Command Center, which Tyson Foods donated in 2014\. It includes sleeping quarters, and office and storage space for Team Rubicon’s staff and volunteers. Tyson Foods has also pledged a $50,000 donation each to the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army to aid in disaster relief efforts in Texas. “With nearly 12,000 team members across Texas and a facility in Houston, the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey is deeply personal,” said Debra Vernon, senior director, corporate social responsibility. “This deployment wouldn't be possible without the support of our team members, disaster relief partners and customers who are all volunteering time and resources to ensure our response is as effective as possible.” For ongoing updates on Tyson Foods’ disaster relief efforts, please follow the company on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
