Tyson Foods Eyes Further Expansion

On September 8, 2016, in Boston, Tyson Foods, Inc. (NYSE: TSN) executives informed attendees at the Barclays Global Consumer Staples Conference about the company's increased and more consistent earnings and sales volume growth. Donnie Smith, the CEO of Tyson Foods, stated, "Our adjusted earnings guidance for fiscal 2016 is $4.40-4.50 per share, which is a 40 percent increase from last year and represents a four-year compound annual growth rate of approximately 22 percent. We are confident that we can achieve high single-digit growth in fiscal 2017." Smith also mentioned that Tyson Foods is giving back to its shareholders through increased dividends and share buybacks, which totaled 31 million shares in the past 12 months up to August 8. "In addition to dividends and share buybacks, we plan to use our significant cash flows to invest in our business or make strategic acquisitions," he added. Tom Hayes, the president of Tyson Foods, stated that the company's "Core 9" product lines, which include the Tyson®, Jimmy Dean®, Hillshire Farm®, Ball Park®, Wright®, Aidells® and State Fair® brands, are experiencing growth and gaining momentum. "The investments we made in the Core 9 to stimulate volume growth are yielding returns," he said. "We continue to outperform retail food and beverage. Tyson Core 9 is leading in volume performance among the top 10 consumer packaged goods retail food manufacturers, and Tyson Foods is one of only three companies to show growth in the most recent quarter.
