Tyson Foods Donates Record Amount of Protein in a Year of Unprecedented Need
Tyson Foods, Inc. (NYSE: TSN) has reported a record-breaking year of food donations, with the company giving away more than 30 million pounds of food, equivalent to 120 million meals, over the past 12 months. This is the largest amount of food the company has donated in its 85-year history. The food donations were part of a larger $75 million investment by Tyson Foods to combat hunger, support its employees, and improve the quality of life in the communities where it operates. The company's COVID-19 Rapid Response Fund also provided grants and food donations to nonprofits helping people in communities where Tyson plants are located. Tyson Foods also provided nearly 20 million meals to Feed the Children, a nonprofit focused on ending childhood hunger. The two organizations have been partners for 18 years, providing protein to families, food banks, churches, and community pantries. In addition to its food donations, Tyson Foods donated more than $65 million worth of protein this year and expanded its hunger relief efforts to include product donations to the Tyson Community Pantry Program. The company also awarded 181 rapid response grants for emergency support of nonprofits near Tyson plant locations. These grants, which averaged $5,500, were given in more than 120 plant communities and focused on emergency response efforts such as rent and utility assistance, hunger relief, healthcare, childcare, small business support, and other economic recovery services. Tyson Foods also partnered with DonorsChoose to give $1.8 million in grants to teachers in 60 of its plant communities. The company also provided more than half a million dollars to local services for immigrant team members from its at-large grant program. Through its Helping Hands program, Tyson Foods provided more than $6 million in financial assistance directly to team members following a disaster or personal hardship. More than 4,000 team members received assistance of up to $1,500 to help pay rent, utilities, childcare, or other emergency needs.
