On November 21, 2017, in Dakota Dunes, SD, Tyson Foods declared a donation of $100,000 to the Siouxland Community Foundation. The contribution will be used to support a capacity building program for Siouxland nonprofits, aimed at improving training and enhancing the efficiency of organizations dedicated to hunger relief. The Siouxland Community Foundation has teamed up with LaSalle University to run an eight-month capacity building program. Between 10 and 12 nonprofits will benefit from 50 hours of education, guidance, and problem-solving consulting services. Rebecca Krohn, the executive director of Siouxland Community Foundation, expressed her gratitude to Tyson Foods for financing this capacity building initiative. She noted that such mentorship is often needed by nonprofits but can be financially challenging to obtain. The program is designed to assist nonprofit organizations that provide services such as immigrant services, hunger relief, adult education, and language services. Krohn stated that the Siouxland Community Foundation is delighted to collaborate with Tyson Foods to offer this valuable opportunity to several nonprofits in the Siouxland tri-state region. She believes this will empower local nonprofits and, in turn, benefit the communities they serve. The Siouxland Community Foundation is committed to improving the quality of life in the broader Siouxland area. They do this by encouraging charitable donations to create permanent community endowments, acting as a protective umbrella for receiving and distributing gifts of any size, making investments to meet community needs, and offering services that contribute to Siouxland's well-being. Dan Heffernan, vice president of human resources operations at Tyson Fresh Meats, expressed his pride in supporting an organization that fosters healthier communities. He hopes that the efforts of the Siouxland Community Foundation will positively impact not only their 9,000 team members in the region but also many others.
