# Tyson Foods and McDonald’s Donate One Million Pounds of Protein to Combat Hunger

On August 24, 2020, in Chicago, Illinois, Tyson Foods, Inc. and McDonald’s collaborated to donate 1 million pounds of protein to various hunger relief organizations throughout the nation. The food donation, equivalent to four million meals, will be distributed to hunger relief organizations in the Chicago area, including the Northern Illinois Food Bank and the Greater Chicago Food Depository. The donations will also be distributed through Tyson Foods' network of Community Pantry Partners in Tyson communities in Arkansas, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, and Missouri. Julie Yurko, President and CEO of Northern Illinois Food Bank, expressed gratitude for the donation, stating that it will provide much-needed nutritious protein to those in need. McDonald’s has a history of food donations, having donated over $19.02 million in food, equivalent to more than 12.3 million total pounds, to over 130 organizations that feed U.S. families. Marion Gross, McDonald’s U.S. Chief Supply Chain Officer for North America, expressed pride in supporting and feeding communities, especially during these uncertain times. In mid-March, Tyson announced that the company had donated more than 4 million pounds of food, equivalent to 16 million meals, to various hunger relief agencies. As of mid-August, that number increased to 104 million meals, or 26 million pounds of food. Greg Lancelot, vice president, sales, Tyson Foods McDonald’s Business Unit, emphasized the importance of partnering with McDonald’s and hunger relief agencies to raise awareness about food insecurity in communities all around the U.S. Tyson Foods, Inc. is one of the world’s largest food companies and a recognized leader in protein.
