BANGKOK – Demonstrating its unwavering dedication to transparency, Thai Union Group PCL has joined the Ocean Disclosure Project, a global initiative that allows seafood companies to publicly disclose the origins of their seafood. This participation underscores Thai Union's commitment to its global sustainability strategy, SeaChange®, focusing on enhancing traceability and transparency to elevate the operational and sourcing standards across the seafood supply chain. In its pledge to the Ocean Disclosure Project, Thai Union will unveil data pertaining to its global supply chains, including those in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. This disclosure will encompass information on both wild-caught and aquaculture seafood, detailing catch areas, production locales, fishing methods, sustainability certifications, and ratings. Access to information on Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs) and Marine Stewardship Council certified fisheries, which Thai Union utilizes, will be made available, offering insights into the company's sustainability projects and the origins of its products. Dr. Darian McBain, Thai Union Group's Global Director of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, emphasized the importance of transparency and traceability in sourcing for the betterment of the global seafood industry. The Ocean Disclosure Project enables stakeholders to understand the sourcing locations of seafood, facilitating actions against illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, labor and human rights abuses, social risks, and marine ecosystem degradation. Launched in 2015 by the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership, the Ocean Disclosure Project aims to foster transparency in seafood sourcing among companies, including retailers, suppliers, and fish feed manufacturers, by encouraging the voluntary disclosure of their wild-caught and farmed seafood sources. The initiative has seen participation from over 30 companies across Europe, North America, and Australia, with more expected from the Americas and Asia. Thai Union has consistently demonstrated its commitment to supply chain transparency through various initiatives, including the publication of the Sourcing Transparency: Wild Caught Fish and Shellfish report in partnership with WWF in 2018, the inclusion of additional species in its Seafood Sourcing Locations map in the 2019 Sustainability Report, and the publication of reports assessing progress against the 2017 Greenpeace Agreement and on ethical recruitment practices. The company's efforts also extend to sharing all European Union supply chain data with WWF, conducting annual environmental assessments, and being a founding member of SeaBOS and a signatory of the World Economic Forum’s Tuna Traceability Declaration. Blake Lee Harwood, SFP’s Chief Programs Officer, commended Thai Union for its leadership in transparency by participating in the Ocean Disclosure Project, highlighting the company's ongoing commitment to responsible seafood sourcing. Thai Union Group PCL, a global seafood leader, has been delivering high-quality, healthy, tasty, and innovative seafood products worldwide for over 40 years. With a portfolio of leading international and Thai brands, Thai Union is committed to innovation and responsible behavior, recognized through its inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices and the FTSE4Good Emerging Index. The Ocean Disclosure Project, established by the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership, serves as a platform for companies to voluntarily share their seafood sourcing information, promoting transparency in the seafood industry.
