ABP Food Group recently convened a Sustainability Summit for its beef and lamb processing facilities, aimed at fostering a culture of environmental stewardship and innovation. Held in Dublin on the 9th of November, the event gathered 120 participants from across Ireland and the UK, encouraging the exchange of sustainable practices and the adoption of successful initiatives from other ABP locations. This bi-annual gathering has been instrumental in ABP achieving its environmental goals well before the 2020 deadline. Dean Holroyd, the Group's Technical and Sustainability Director, emphasized the summit's role in facilitating knowledge sharing among ABP's teams. He highlighted the ongoing execution of numerous sustainability projects across the company's sites, underscoring the importance of leveraging these initiatives for the benefit of all locations. The 2015 summit led to the implementation of 50 new sustainability projects, significantly advancing the company's progress towards its 2020 objectives. As a pioneer in sustainability, ABP Food Group is a charter member of Origin Green and has distinguished itself by being the first company worldwide to secure the Carbon Trust Triple Certification for the third consecutive time. This prestigious certification is awarded to organizations that demonstrate significant reductions in carbon emissions, water usage, and waste production, showcasing their commitment to environmental management and continuous improvement in sustainability practices. Additionally, ABP's renewable energy division, Olleco, has announced a substantial investment of £22 million in a new green energy facility located near the Arla dairy in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. This plant is set to generate sustainable energy sufficient to power approximately 12,000 homes, further underscoring ABP Food Group's commitment to environmental sustainability and innovation.
