The Newry and Lurgan branches of meat processing company ABP, in collaboration with their regional farming partners, have contributed £20,000 to the Northern Ireland-based cancer support organization, Action Cancer. ABP Newry's General Manager, Roger Sheahan, shared, “The initiative came about when a supplier's wife, who volunteers for the charity's local committee in Banbridge, reached out to us for support. The ABP leadership team in the area was more than happy to contribute. Our fundraising BBQ event saw participation from over 600 of our suppliers, all coming together for this cause.” Expressing gratitude towards ABP for their significant contribution to Action Cancer's mission, Dougie King from the charity remarked, “ABP and its network of local farmers have shown remarkable teamwork and community spirit in aiding The Banbridge Action Cancer Group. Considering the number of individuals who will benefit from our services in the near future, it's heartening to see such a substantial donation positively impacting the lives of local residents daily.” “Action Cancer offers a suite of services aimed at cancer prevention, early detection, and providing support across Northern Ireland. Thanks to ABP's generosity, we are able to provide complimentary breast screenings, health assessments, counselling for both children starting from the age of 5 and adults, along with complementary therapies. These services are accessible via our Big Bus mobile unit, at Action Cancer House, or in over 12 regional locations. With one in two individuals facing a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, I extend our heartfelt thanks to ABP on behalf of those who will benefit.” An additional £5,000 raised during the event was shared between two local organizations, Home Start Newry and Reach Mentoring Lurgan. In recognition of this significant contribution, Action Cancer has unveiled a billboard in Banbridge. Featured in a photo in front of the billboard are Niall Kearney & Ann Cunningham from ABP; Dougie King from Action Cancer; and Roger Sheahan, also from ABP.
