Showcasing Butcher Trade at DM in Skills by Kanpithak

Kanpithak Pimkoksung, affectionately known as Kan, was sure from a young age that he wanted to pursue a trade after finishing primary school. The idea of mastering a craft and honing a professional skill that could be continually refined always intrigued him. This led him to explore various fields such as carpentry, construction, and even culinary arts through internships. However, it was his final internship as an industrial butcher that solidified his career path. Kan saw the butcher trade as an opportunity to learn a complex craft from the ground up. He was also attracted to the numerous future prospects that the profession offered. The 23-year-old, who began his two-year industrial butcher training in January 2022, finds the continuous improvement and speed of the craft most rewarding. Kan, originally from Thailand, moved to Denmark with his mother in 2014. He attended Danish primary school in Skanderborg for the 8th and 9th grades. Although he was unfamiliar with the butcher profession before starting, his family has been supportive of his choice, despite initial concerns about the physical demands of the job. Kan reassured them that the industry teaches its workers to take care of their bodies and work efficiently. Kan finds the most satisfaction in seeing the tangible products of his labor, which add value to his workplace and ultimately benefit consumers. He was also pleasantly surprised by the strong sense of community at the slaughterhouse, where teamwork and mutual support are highly valued. Kan is one of five butchers from Danish Crown who will compete in the Danish Championship in Skills in Fredericia in early February. Despite being relatively new to the profession, he is excited to compete among the best. He appreciates the opportunity that Skills provides to showcase his expertise and creativity, particularly in terms of cuts, marinades, seasonings, and accompaniments. Above all, he is eager to represent his profession and engage with visitors about the butcher trade and its products.
