Cermaq is actively involved in SeaBOS, a partnership aimed at enhancing sustainability and achieving the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This marks the third gathering of CEOs from SeaBOS member companies across Asia, Europe, and America. These companies, in collaboration with scientific partners, are part of the Seafood Business for Ocean Stewardship (SeaBOS) initiative, which aims to lead in ocean sustainability. The meeting was held in Karuizawa. Cermaq's CEO, Geir Molvik, expressed his optimism about the commitment level of all ten SeaBOS members and believes that SeaBOS will significantly contribute to achieving SDG14\. In accordance with the SeaBOS charter, the meeting concluded with an agreement to tackle major issues impacting ocean health and seafood sustainability, such as Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing and modern slavery. SeaBOS companies are currently experimenting with new traceability technologies in their global supply chains and are keen to participate in the Global Dialogue on Seafood Traceability to enhance existing global standards. All companies are dedicated to transparent reporting and aim to significantly reduce their use of antibiotics in aquaculture and plastic materials in their supply chains. SeaBOS also aims to take a leading role in enhancing global ocean policy and regulations to support ocean stewardship. During the discussion, the SeaBOS organization was officially established with Shigeru Ito, CEO and President of Maruha Nichiro Corporation – the world's largest seafood company, appointed as the first chairman of the SeaBOS initiative. Knut Nesse, the current CEO of Nutreco, was appointed as the managing director of SeaBOS starting January 1st. Mr. Ito expressed his commitment to making the initiative a success and taking on global responsibility. Knut Nesse also expressed his eagerness to make a difference and his happiness in accepting his new role as SeaBOS director.
