The previously shut down fish feed mill in Invergordon has resumed operations. Skretting, the former owners, had announced in November 2018 that they would be ending their manufacturing activities in the UK, leading to the closure of the Invergordon facility in April 2019\. Cooke Inc., a Canadian family-owned business, purchased the Invergordon site in September 2019\. Through its subsidiary, Northeast Nutrition Scotland, the company collaborated with the employees who were impacted by the shutdown to restart the mill's operations. The company announced that fish feed production recommenced in January 2020, with the first batch being produced and delivered within four months of Cooke's acquisition of the plant. Northeast Nutrition Scotland has re-employed 22 individuals, most of whom were laid off when the mill shut down the previous year. The Cooke group of companies is dedicated to reducing the environmental impact of its operations and respecting the needs of all those who share our resources. They aim to produce safe, high-quality, nutritious seafood products that consistently meet customer expectations. Northeast Nutrition Scotland Limited will use sustainably sourced fishery products from the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), indicated by the iconic blue checkmark, which signifies that they originate from a healthy, sustainable fishery. Fisheries with MSC certification are acknowledged as some of the best managed globally. The mill has received Label Rouge and Organic certifications and can produce feed for both seawater and freshwater locations across its three production lines. The mill will provide feed to Cooke Aquaculture Scotland's salmon farms in Orkney and Shetland. Northeast Nutrition Scotland also plans to explore new supply chain opportunities within the UK and international aquaculture sector. Chris Bryden, the Invergordon Mill Manager, expressed his delight at the mill's operational status within four months, attributing it to the skills and experience of the workforce. He expressed gratitude for the continued support from the local community, Highland Council, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, and Gail Ross MSP. Cooke's dedication to sustainably sourced feed ingredients, continuous enhancements to feed formulations, and innovations in feed delivery enable the company to produce healthy fish for its customers.
