Ice Trawl Greenland, a company in which Royal Greenland has a 50% stake, has acquired a new longline fishing vessel that is currently operating off the eastern coast of Greenland. The vessel, named Masilik, primarily fishes in the eastern Greenland sea, with a focus on catching cod and tusk. Masilik has also been given a smaller quota for cod fishing off the western coast of Greenland, with the catch being delivered to Royal Greenland's factories along the western coastline. The vessel began its fishing operations on May 20th. Masilik is a sturdy vessel, with dimensions of 50 by 11 meters, and has the capacity to hold up to 450 tons. It also has accommodation for 11 crew members onboard. Previously known as Carisma Viking, the Norwegian vessel has been renamed to Masilik after its purchase. Ice Trawl Greenland A/S is a joint venture between Royal Greenland and a group of private Greenlandic individuals. The company also owns another trawler named Nataarnaq.
