On September 28, 2016, Tyson Foods, Inc. (NYSE:TSN) based in Springdale, Arkansas, declared a donation of 50,000 pounds of protein to the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank. This generous contribution was made in recognition of the company's first-ever Miles that Matter initiative. Starting in June, over 500 Tyson Foods employees took part in the initiative by walking, running, or cycling on the Razorback Greenway. Tyson promised to donate a pound of protein to the food bank for every mile covered, with a maximum limit of 50,000 pounds. By the end of summer, the team had collectively covered more than 12,000 miles. Annetta Tirey, Tyson Foods' senior manager of corporate social responsibility, expressed satisfaction with the participation in the inaugural Miles that Matter event, despite falling short of the mileage target. She emphasized the company's commitment to supporting the food bank due to the continuous demand for protein. Tyson Foods is known for its community support, and the Miles that Matter initiative is a unique way for employees to contribute directly to the company's philanthropic activities. Seth Summerside, a category marketing manager at Tyson Foods, highlighted the importance of the initiative in addressing food insecurity in northwest Arkansas. He noted that the program provided a platform for everyone to contribute to improving their community.
