Mexican Authorities Approve the Sale of Tyson de México
On June 1, 2015, in Springdale, Arkansas, the Federal Economic Competition Commission of Mexico gave the green light for the sale of Tyson Foods, Inc.'s (NYSE: TSN) poultry operations in Mexico to Pilgrim’s Pride, a fully-owned subsidiary of JBS SA (BM&FBovespa – Novo Mercado: JBSS3, OTCQX: JBSAY). The commission, after a thorough review, has given its approval for the transaction to move forward. Tyson's President and CEO, Donnie Smith, expressed gratitude for the Commission's diligence and stated that they will now proceed with Pilgrim’s Pride to finalize the transaction. While no specific closing date has been set, Smith anticipates it will be in the near future. Tyson Foods and Pilgrim’s Pride had previously agreed on the sale in July of the previous year. The business, Tyson de México, is a comprehensive poultry operation based in Gomez Palacio in North Central Mexico, employing over 5,400 individuals across its offices, three factories, and seven distribution centers. Upon completion of the sale, Tyson Foods will maintain its customer base in Mexico, supplying them with chicken produced both in the U.S. and Mexico, partly through a co-packaging deal with Pilgrim’s Pride.
