McCain Ramps Up Vertical Farming Initiatives with GoodLeaf Partnership

McCain Foods Limited has significantly invested in GoodLeaf Sustainable Agriculture and its subsidiary GoodLeaf Farms, the largest commercial vertical farming operation in Canada. The investment, exceeding $65 million, makes McCain the largest shareholder in GoodLeaf and will support the company's growth and expansion plans. GoodLeaf aims to establish a national network of sustainable vertical farms to provide fresh, locally grown food to more Canadians. The company's first commercial farm, a fully automated 45,000-square-foot facility in Guelph, Ontario, grows a variety of microgreens and baby greens year-round. GoodLeaf plans to open two more indoor vertical farms in the next year, one in Eastern Canada and one in Western Canada. The farms use 95% less water than traditional farming and have a significantly reduced carbon footprint.
