Given the pressing climate crisis, it is imperative that our global food system evolves towards sustainability. The agricultural sector must prioritize efficient production, biodiversity enhancement, and soil health preservation to responsibly cater to the increasing population. McCain Foods has always acknowledged the significance of farming for communities and the world at large. This understanding has led to the company's pledge to a novel initiative, Farms of the Future, aimed at promoting sustainable farming practices by proving their scalability and economic feasibility. As a component of McCain's sustainability strategy in agriculture, this initiative will partner with universities, tech firms, and other agriculture-focused companies to test regenerative potato farming methods and new agricultural technologies on dedicated commercial farms. While the program is still in its early stages, the ultimate goal is to disseminate the knowledge acquired across McCain's vast global network of potato growers, facilitating the swift application of these insights. Once fully operational, McCain anticipates that this program will serve as a model, illustrating the potential of sustainable farming and fostering connections between McCain growers, customers, and consumers. "McCain has a history of pioneering potato cultivation practices globally," stated Max Koeune, President and CEO of McCain Foods Limited. "As a company rooted in agriculture, we understand the urgency of addressing climate change issues within the food system. We are confident that the McCain Farms of the Future initiative will prove that regenerative agriculture and biodiversity protection can coexist with economic viability." Koeune unveiled the Farms of the Future initiative at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 25, during his speech at the 'Unlocking the Transformational Power of Nature' panel event. Editor's note: McCain Foods is the leading global manufacturer of frozen potato products and a prominent player in appetizers and snacks. The company employs around 21,000 people, runs 53 production facilities across six continents, and generates annual sales exceeding CDN $10 billion.
