McCain Invests $12 Million in Florenceville Potato Processing Facility

McCain Foods Canada, a subsidiary of McCain Foods Limited, announced today its intention to invest an additional $12 million in its potato processing plant in Florenceville, New Brunswick, known as the world's French fry capital. This investment will increase the capacity of the existing production line that manufactures French fries for the company's food service and retail sectors. The project will be carried out in two stages, with the first phase commencing in August and the final phase concluding in early 2020. This expansion will necessitate an extra 400 hectares (1000 acres) of potatoes from local farmers in the area. This follows a recent investment of $65 million to add a new potato specialty line to the same production facility in 2017. Danielle Barran, President of McCain Foods Canada, stated, "The demand for McCain French fries remains high and we are investing in a robust and sustainable future. It always feels wonderful to invest in Florenceville, the birthplace of McCain, where we have longstanding ties with employees, the community, and local potato farmers." McCain Foods has proudly grown from its origins in Florenceville, New Brunswick since 1957. Starting with 30 employees and $150,000 in sales in its first year, the company has expanded to become a global corporation with over 21,000 employees working in 53 production facilities across six continents. The company's sales exceed CDN $9.5 billion worldwide, while it remains headquartered in Canada and family-owned.
