SPRINGDALE, Ark. – May 1, 2020 – Tyson Fresh Meats, Inc., a subsidiary of Tyson Foods, Inc. (NYSE: TSN), specializing in beef and pork, has declared its intention to recommence limited production at its Logansport, Indiana, facility in the coming week. This decision follows a plant tour involving local health and government officials, a union representative, and medical professionals. The pork processing facility had temporarily ceased operations on April 25 to conduct COVID-19 testing on its team members. Employees were instructed to self-isolate until their test results were confirmed. The company is collaborating with local health officials to verify test results and will inform team members before the restart date, adhering to CDC guidelines on safely reintegrating employees back into the workplace. Employees who test positive or exhibit COVID-19 symptoms will be advised to contact their health care provider, continue self-isolation, and take necessary precautions for their health. Employees who test negative will be invited back to work, provided they remain symptom-free. "We have implemented additional safety measures to ensure our team members return to a secure work environment and have made further changes to support them during this global health crisis," stated Todd Neff, senior vice president of pork. "While the facility was inactive, we increased workstation barriers, installed more hand sanitizer dispensers, and conducted additional deep cleaning and sanitation. We are now screening employees for additional symptoms and appointing monitors to enforce social distancing, in line with the CDC and OSHA’s guidelines for Meat and Poultry Processing Workers and Employers." Furthermore, the Logansport facility is the first among several Tyson plants to host a mobile health clinic, run by Matrix Medical Network, to offer community-based services. These services include diagnostic (PCR) testing for COVID-19, assistance with the environmental design of the facility to reduce the risk of virus spread, and daily on-site clinical screening. The company has also doubled its bonus for employees. Team members who are unable to work due to illness or childcare will continue to qualify, but bonus eligibility will be attendance-dependent. Tyson Foods has also increased short-term disability coverage to 90% of regular pay until June 30 to encourage team members to stay home when they are unwell. "Tyson Fresh Meats has collaborated effectively with local community leaders to ensure its re-opening plan is safe," commented Dr. Dori Ditty, health officer of Cass County Health Department. "We toured the plant and believe the additional measures implemented will allow employees to work safely, while continuing to adhere to CDC guidelines and recommendations. We will continue to closely monitor the situation to ensure employee safety." "Tyson has made significant efforts to protect their employees during this challenging time, while employees received paid time to get tested," said Cass County Commissioner, Ryan Browning. "We acknowledge Tyson as a crucial partner in the food chain and the livelihood of our agricultural community and are satisfied with all the measures they continue to implement, including the mobile medical clinic." "The decision to reopen the Logansport plant has my full support," stated Logansport Mayor, Chris Martin. "We've all taken actions to do more to stop the spread of COVID-19\. Tyson is taking more precautions with the extra measures seen during the plant tour. The company is doing the right thing and going above and beyond to ensure the safety of their team and community. Our Cass County health officials have worked tirelessly to protect the community and we're doing our part by recently signing an executive order to help prevent the spread of the virus in the city." Tyson Fresh Meats recently announced its plans to temporarily cease operations at its Dakota City, Nebraska, beef plant for additional deep cleaning and sanitation. The group also voluntarily idled its locations in Waterloo and Perry, Iowa, and Pasco, Washington, while team members undergo testing and plants complete deep cleaning of the facilities. Despite the current challenges faced by the food industry and all Americans, Tyson is proud of its team members and their dedication to our mission of providing food for millions of households across the country.
