JBS has invested over $123 million in 180 projects aimed at reducing scope 1 and 2 emissions from its operations. Today, JBS, a leading global food company, unveiled its 2022 Sustainability Report. This document outlines the company's worldwide sustainability strategy and shares updates and achievements towards its goals. "At JBS, our dedication to sustainable food production is a fundamental aspect of our business," stated Gilberto Tomazoni, JBS's Global CEO. "Food insecurity is a significant issue worldwide, and the need to produce more, with affordability and climate change in mind, has never been more critical. We remain confident that our efforts are on the right track, as we are steadfastly guided by our mission to excel in everything we do," he emphasized. Despite the challenging global environment in 2022, JBS remained committed to meaningful environmental, social, and governance (ESG) actions across its operations in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Europe, Mexico, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. "Our team at JBS is dedicated to enhancing our operations every day, collaborating with our farmer and rancher partners to improve practices, and building partnerships to identify and unlock progress," said Jason Weller, JBS's Global Director of Sustainability. "Every day, we work on our global business to create value, integrating sustainability outcomes into our market strategy and, ultimately, into the products we produce and the services we offer," he added. Sustainability advancements include: - Appointing the first Global Director of Sustainability in our history; - Approving over 180 emission reduction projects for scope 1 and 2 for implementation at JBS facilities, totaling more than $123 million. - Partnering with producers in our Brazilian supply chain through 18 JBS Green Offices to address deforestation causes and bring nearly 2,500 farms into compliance with Brazil's Forest Code. - Achieving 45.1% use of renewable electricity in our global operations. - Enrolling over 2,000 employees and/or their children in classes to pursue free higher education through the JBS Better Futures program. - Investing R$180 million in the J&F Institute, a Business Education Center, to provide free education for more than 900 elementary to high school students. - Establishing a Global Executive Compliance Committee to oversee continuous improvements in the company's compliance program and promote a culture of ethics and integrity throughout the company. "Our extensive and diverse production platform, portfolio of recognized brands, strong culture that prioritizes regional autonomy, and our consistent interactions with consumer-focused producers and customers position JBS as the most well-equipped food company to help address global challenges related to feeding a growing global population," Tomazoni stated.
