JBS joins nine other leading global food companies in announcing collaborative efforts and reinforces its commitment towards achieving Net Zero.

XP Inc., a leading financial services platform in Brazil, has announced a donation of R$ 500,000 to one of the initial six projects supported by the JBS Fund for the Amazon. This fund is committed to backing initiatives aimed at the sustainable development of the Amazon Biome. It focuses on conservation, sustainable forest use, improving the quality of life for local populations, and fostering development through technology and applied science. In line with the commitment made at the fund's inception in September last year, JBS will match partner contributions, such as that from XP Inc., until reaching R$ 500 million. The fund's goal is to amass R$ 1 billion by 2030. Joanita Maestri Karoleski, president of the JBS Fund for the Amazon, highlighted the significance of XP Inc.'s contribution, stating it plays a crucial role in boosting the supported initiatives. She emphasized that XP Inc.'s involvement underscores the fund's potential to drive sustainable development in the Amazon. XP Inc. will back the Unlocking Credit for the Forest Bioeconomy project, spearheaded by Conexsus. This project aims to promote forest chains - including Brazil nuts, açaí, fish, timber, oils, and resins - by easing access to rural credit. It involves hiring and training local facilitators to secure at least 2,500 credit contracts under the National Program to Strengthen Family Agriculture (PRONAF). Additionally, the project will develop a business model for 15 cooperatives to provide periodic management advice to the project's end beneficiaries, creating a social business to support access to PRONAF credit with productive guidance. This initiative is expected to boost productivity and income, thereby encouraging deforestation prevention. Marta Pinheiro, ESG Director at XP Inc., expressed pride in supporting the JBS Fund for the Amazon, aligning with the company's commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles. This commitment includes internal initiatives, raising awareness within their network of independent offices, and offering a variety of investment products with a socio-environmental focus. Pinheiro stressed the importance of preserving the Amazon, a symbol of Brazil and a region in urgent need of protection. In early June, the JBS Fund for the Amazon announced its first six selected projects for support and funding. These projects focus on forest conservation and preservation, improving local community life quality, and scientific and technological development in the region. Together, they will receive R$ 50 million from the fund. For more details about the JBS Fund for the Amazon and the supported projects, visit their website.
