Since its launch in 2021, the Green Offices initiative has supported the socio-environmental regularization of over 7,000 farms. At an event hosted by the international coalition CGF (Consumer Goods Forum) alongside food industry partners and global retail networks in Brasília, JBS unveiled the Green Offices 2.0 project. This initiative aims to assist small producers beyond resolving environmental liabilities by introducing technology to enhance productivity sustainably, ensuring income to prevent a fallback into deforestation. Liège Correia, JBS's Sustainability Director in Brazil, encouraged CGF companies to engage with the proposal. One of the priorities for the coming year, the project is set to commence in 2024 at 5 of the existing 20 Green Offices locations across Brazil. "We have been developing projects to ensure that producers, who feel pressured and marginalized in the supply chain, can have a profitable production that eliminates the need to resort to deforestation for survival. Therefore, we must provide not only the means for environmental liability regularization but also access to technology and conditions for a decent income," stated Liège. Currently, the Company's Green Offices offer free technical advice for environmental regularization to both direct suppliers of JBS and others. Since its inception in 2021, the initiative has aided in the socio-environmental regularization of more than 7,000 farms, allowing approximately 2.6 million heads of livestock to re-enter the formal supply chain and serving 19,000 rural producers. With the advancement of the Green Offices 2.0 version, JBS will also provide tools for producers to move beyond legalization to adopting sustainable regenerative production practices and agroforestry systems. "Technology enhances productivity, income, and makes production more sustainable," Liège Correia advocated. In the month that COP28 begins in Dubai, the CGF-organized event in Brasília received support from the TFA (Tropical Forest Alliance), aiming to showcase to partners the recent advancements in meat and grain production in Brazil and the need to mobilize resources for increasingly sustainable practices and multi-sector collaboration towards climate goals. CGF participants include companies like Arcos Dorados, Carrefour, Jerónimo Martins, Mars, Neste, Nestlé, and Walmart.
