JBS advocates for a collaborative effort between public and private sectors to assist small-scale farmers in the regularization of rural properties.
In a recent initiative under its social responsibility program, "Fazer o Bem Faz Bem – Alimentando o Mundo com Solidariedade," JBS has contributed seven thousand oximeters to the São Paulo State Health Department. These devices, crucial for measuring blood oxygen saturation, are set to be primarily allocated to health units specializing in Covid-19 across the state. This contribution will enable medical teams to enhance the frequency of oxygen saturation readings for patients undergoing treatment, a critical aspect of monitoring the disease's clinical progression. Moreover, these devices will empower healthcare professionals to implement more timely and accurate clinical interventions, ultimately benefiting patients. "We are delighted to provide these devices to the São Paulo State Government, which will significantly aid in combating the disease," stated Fernando Meller, Seara's Director of People & Management and the program's coordinator. "Early detection of decreased blood oxygen saturation and its immediate correction is arguably the most impactful measure in preventing severe Covid-19 complications. Often, patients do not notice this drop until it is too late. The oximeter, an easy-to-use tool, allows for the measurement of saturation levels and indicates when early oxygen supplementation is necessary, thereby preventing the need for subsequent invasive ventilatory support," added Dr. Adauto Castelo Filho, an infectious disease specialist consulting for JBS on Covid-19 related matters. Through the "Fazer o Bem Faz Bem" initiative in 2021, JBS's efforts also included donating over 980 hospital devices to enable new ICU bed openings in Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraná, and Rio Grande do Sul, along with 400 oxygen cylinders to Amazonas and funding for two months of medical services in Paraisópolis, São Paulo. The program allocated R$ 400 million towards pandemic relief in Brazil, reaching over 300 cities nationwide and benefiting 77 million individuals.
